On Wednesday, May 20th, SHARE held back-to-back half-hour meetings for members, at 12:00, 12:30, and 1:00. People dropped in on their lunch break. For those who were not able to attend there is a summary below. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Topics included: Contract Negotiations Updates, Performance Evaluations and uniting for a contract campaign.
Negotiations Updates
Steps Raise System: The SHARE negotiating team continues to stress the importance of converting our current raise system to a Steps Raise System. This was a hot topic during our member meeting, as those who attended seemed to be well informed of the advantages to a step raise system and the effort we’ve put into making this a reality. As our members know, this would not only be easier for UMass Chan to implement but would provide predictability and financial growth for our members.
No money on the table yet: We have yet to begin negotiating financial details of the contract. We are continuing to discuss other priorities which our members indicated are important through our Contract Priorities survey. These negotiations have been productive to this point, and we believe the financial conversations will begin soon. We all need to “hang in there” and stay informed.
Performance Evaluations
We talked about how its going so far for those who have taken part in the evaluation process.
Are there any hangups? Lots of questions around the merit bonuses. Nothing is changing for this year.
Members asked about differences in evaluations between departments and Union/Non-Union
Self-Evaluations: Some departments do them, some don’t. But we think its a good idea to complete these.
Questions about the evaluation process? Please reach out to Share.umms@theshareunion.org
Other Topics
Contract Campaign: We shared ideas of what a good contract campaign would look like, and how we can make sure all SHARE members are connected.
Inclement Weather: How has your department handled these situations? Are their plans in place when you lose power/internet working from home?
Artificial Intelligence: It’s a concern among unions across the country. Based on our conversations so far, our members aren’t seeing an impact, but if you are, please reach out to tell us about it.
As always, if any of these topics resonate with you, or raises questions please feel free to reach out any time.
In Solidarity, The SHARE staff
